Alabama Hospital Wins Parent Education Programs for their Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

MetaMD LLC , a Virginia based provider of interactive parent education programs for neonatal intensive care units (NICU) and Labor & Delivery units, congratulates University of South Alabama Children’s & Women’s Hospital (USA Children’s) for winning its 2015 LoveMyNICU contest. The hospital won $10,000 worth of educational material for its neonatal intensive care unit. The NICU received a tablet-based, interactive educational program called NICU Knowledge™ for in-hospital use and cloud-based access to the program for parents to use after discharge.

The contest was open to all hospitals in the United States that operate a neonatal intensive care unit. To be eligible to win, a hospital must have been nominated at Over 850 nominations were received from around the country. Nominations were made by hospital staff as well as friends and family of the NICUs. Winners were selected by a random drawing of nominated hospitals.

MetaMD partnered with the National Caregivers Library to conduct the LoveMyNICU contest to help bring more attention to the need for quality education and support for new parents and their families – while in the hospital and after discharge. According to Amanda Walton, Senior Partner at MetaMD, “Every day, we talk to hospitals that recognize the need for high quality educational programs but are restrained by budget considerations. The contest allowed hospitals of any size to have an equal opportunity to win and show their dedication to education and the families in their NICU.”

“One of the most gratifying things about the contest was to see the outpouring of support from parents whose babies had spent time in the NICUs of nominated hospitals. On the nomination forms, dozens of NICU parents wrote comments about the wonderful treatment their babies received while in these hospitals. Equally touching were the comments about the tremendous moral support the parents received and the friendships and bonds that were made with hospital staff members.” Following is the comment from one of the people who nominated USA Children’s.

“This NICU saved my daughter's life. The amazing transport team came to get her after a few surprise birth defects at birth. Our experience with USA Children's and Women's hospital was flawless. They were so loving and above all so helpful and patient with all my questions as a young and scared new mother. Thanks to them I have a 14 month old daughter to love on every single day. I am forever grateful for the care she received from this amazing NICU. I nominate them to receive this money so that other parents and family units as a whole can learn to care for their precious baby in a better way after their discharge. The first few months are extremely scary after discharge. A good education before discharge is a must. Please consider USA Children's and Women's hospital, Mobile, AL when choosing a winner for this generous gift! Thank you.”
